Sound Threshold - Season I

Cima Verde (Green Peak) is the outcome of the collaboration between Sound Threshold, sound recordist Chris Watson, the team of the Centre for Alpine Ecology of Monte Bondone (CEALP) / Edmund Mach Foundation, and Paneveggio Park.

In spring 2008 Chris Watson was invited by Sound Threshold to undertake a residency at CEALP / Monte Bondone (Mount Bondone) and Paneveggio Park, during which he explored the acoustic phenomena of Trentino region and captured the sounds of the alpine environment.
The series of sound recordings made on location resulted in the CD Cima Verde, which presents the soundscapes uncovered by Watson during his residency.
Watson once defined his recordings as "atmospheres of special places" (Stepping Into The Dark. The New and Forgotten Road, CD booklet; Touch, 1996): Cima Verde reports a range of atmospheres from Monte Bondone and its three peaks: Dosso D'Abramo, Cornetto and Cima Verde. Not only does this work uncover the change in seasons from winter to spring; it also reveals the different degrees of altitude, the reawakening of sounds on the cusp between night and day and the alternating and mixing of audio signals that characterise different natural habitats.

Cima Verde was launched on 16 July 2008 at CEALP, with a talk by Chris Watson and an introduction by Ettore Sartori (Director of Paneveggio Park), Anna Paola Rizzoli (Director of CEALP), and Sound Threshold curators Daniela Cascella and Lucia Farinati.

Cima Verde is also the title of Watson's surround sound installation that was presented in the exhibition "Auditory Epode", Manifesta 7, Rovereto 2008.
